Job Description

The Business Improvement Associate will be an integral part of the newly launched Process Improvement and Project Management function at USAA Real Estate. This role will be responsible for leading enterprise-wide business process projects, which are often enabled through Lean Six Sigma and technology innovation. This unique role combines process improvement, business analysis, and project management skills to deliver valuable business outcomes.

 

The Associate will work closely with the Director Process Excellence to identify business opportunities and drive a culture of continuous improvement.  The Associate will collect and analyze processes to initiate, develop and recommend business practices that result in increased productivity, reduced cost and a meaningful return on investment.

Essential Duties: 

  • Build constructive and effective relationships; uses diplomacy and tact; truly value people.
  • Work with the functional business areas to identify opportunities, prioritize, select and execute Process Improvement and IT projects to successful completion.
  • Independently lead multiple complex, high-visibility projects that span various functional areas from project initiation through execution.
    • Collaborate with business leaders as sponsors and process owners to determine scope and goals of the project.
    • Gather Stakeholder buy-in for the project scope and goals.
    • Validate that project goals align with company objectives.
    • Analyze current state processes and recommend future state processes based on Lean Six Sigma practices.
    • Deliver a feasible project plan and manage the performance of the project by tracking deliverables and project risks.
    • Manage project resource allocation.
    • Communicate current project status to senior leaders and stakeholders.
  • Lead tactical IT project execution by utilizing Agile Sprint Planning.
  • Provide stewardship of the process/project/program management methodology, develop best practices and tools, and manage the distribution and use of the methodology throughout the company.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business Administration or related field OR at least 4 additional years of directly related work experience beyond the required years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • 5+ years professional business experience with 3+ years experience in process improvement.
  • Six Sigma Greenbelt certified or currently pursuing a Six Sigma Greenbelt certification.
  • Sound working knowledge and experience using and applying process improvement best practices/techniques, to include process mapping and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience modeling business processes using a variety of tools and techniques.
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to communicate and present information effectively at all levels of the organization through written and verbal methods.
  • Excellent facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work across multiple, distributed, functional groups.
  • Strong enterprise-wide vision (seeing the big picture) with strong attention to detail.
  • Aptitude for understanding organization operations and culture and the related functional capabilities of implemented enterprise applications (custom and off-the-shelf).
  • Familiarity with standard software development methods (SDLC, Agile, etc.).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (PPT, Excel, Visio) and an aptitude for technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
  • PMP Certification.
  • Experience in the Real Estate Industry.
  • Experience in Accounting or Financial Services.
  • Experience influencing others to support an idea, agenda, or direction.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods of time; frequently required to stand, walk, and use business equipment daily such as computer, copier, fax, telephone, etc.; frequently required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to handle stress caused by multiple priorities, and other unforeseen situations associated with the organization.
  • Eyesight and hearing must be correctable to standard level.
